Sewing Blogs: Spread the Love 6

Where has the time gone dear readers? It has been well over a month since I have written a post, and well over a year since I have written a " Sewing Blog: Spread the Love" post.

I am still out of town, so no sewing has been going on obviously. I also flew to Palm Beach about a week and a half ago for a fabulous week at the beach. Getting there due to Hurricane Isaac was quite the nightmare, but once we landed everything was smooth sailing. On our return flight home, we were given the oddest excuses I have ever heard as to why we were 3 hours delayed and there was no bad weather. First, they said the plane had been on the tarmac too long and was too hot to board, then we had a minor mechanical issue, which turned out to bee too big of an issue to fix. So, they found us another plane, a plane that a previous passenger had gotten sick on, so we had to wait for an employee to come in to clean up the plane! When we finally boarded I was beginning to question whether or nor we'd make it back to Omaha given that the lights on board kept flickering. The joys of flying!

Now, allow us to move on to more pleasant things, like sewing blogs and other miscellany to be found on the interwebs.

• First up is a blog that I just recently discovered, Brentwood Lane. According to the "About Me" section of their blog, it it written by three sisters who love vintage and love to sew. I can't wait to see more from them.
• Next in line is this post from Jilly Be Joyful about those every aggravating captcha things. I removed mine and haven't had a single spam comment. 
• Third in line is another new to me blog, Tatulinka's Tales. She has cute sewing projects as well as great vintage images, including some great Ladies Home Journal scans. 
• Next up is another blog, written by Smithsonian.com, that has great articles about fashion history. The article about nylon stockings is a must read, as well at the article about the role seamstresses played in designing the space suit donned by Neil Armstrong. 
• Next, you must check out the Flickr stream of the user The Pie Shops. They have thousands upon thousands of images, including tons of vintage catalogs and magazines. 
• I made this Cinnamon Roll Cake from a blog called Cooking Up North. Oh my word is it fabulous!

Sewing Blogs: Spread the Love 5

Hello wonderful readers! I still don't have a finished object to show you, but there have been some awesome things popping up in the blogosphere.

• Rachel, from Shoes and Sewing, made this awesome Anthro knockoff dress. 
• The Girl with the Star Spangled Heart made this amazing skirt.
• Molly, from Molly's Sewing and Garage Sale Adventures, made this dress to wear to interviews. I think I am going to need to pick up that pattern one day, and hope my turns out half as fabulously!
• Evie, from La Couturiere Dimanche, made a super cute full skirted shirt dress and is working on a truly amazing wool skirt suit from a 50's pattern. 
• Dixie, from Dixie DIY, made the perfect summer tank top.
• Lastly, from Couture Allure, is the most fabulous coat I have ever laid my eyes on. Finding similar fabric that isn't quilting cotton would most likely be an impossible task, sadly.

There you have it ladies and gentlemen, a small sampling of all the wonderful things to behold in the world of sewing blogs. I am off to make myself work on my dress. I really want to wear it, but for some reason I don't have any mojo to make it. What have you all been working? I'd love to know.

Sewing Blogs: Spread the Love 4

Hello wonderful readers! Today I realized it had been quite a while since my last installment of "Sewing Blogs: Spread the Love". I have enjoyed writing the other three installments of my series, and hopefully I will be able to keep on track with my original plan of writing a post weekly. Based on my experience, those who write sewing blogs are generally quite warm and welcoming, as well as very willing to help out their fellow seamstresses when they find themselves in a sewing dilemma. Furthermore, everyone was so helpful when I started my blog, and many bloggers with significantly more established blogs than mine put me on their blogrolls. If it weren't for being listed on blogrolls, I doubt I would have as many followers as I do. Now, before you say anything, I don't honestly believe 72 is that large of a large number, but it is far more than I expected to have when I started this blog. I had never blogged before and didn't quite know what to expect, or how to gain followers, but I have been very pleasantly surprised. So, I said all of that to mean this, we all need to help out fellow bloggers in the sewing blog community.


So, lets get to the lovely things I have taken a fancy to in blog land.

• Couture Allure shared some amazing swimsuit pictures from the 40s. ( Be sure to check out the jaw dropping shoes in one of the pics.)
• Stevie, from BeeBee's Vintage Dress made a super cute skirt.
• Forrest Nicole, from Presser Foot Propaganda, posts a weekly installment of "Wednesday Wants". This Wednesday, she featured an amazing dress and closet that I am so coveting. 
• Justine, from Sew Country Chick, is giving away a copy of Butterick's infamous walkaway dress. Hop on over there and enter her giveaway. ( I won't be entering since I already have a copy.)
• The Vintage Sheet Blog featured an article on making a maxi dress from a vintage sheet.
• Kristine, from Just Keep Sewing, has a ingenious idea about storing buttons.
• Esther, from Morning Star, made a black and white striped swimsuit that I would love to own.
• If you like to bake I highly suggest this recipe for Red Velvet Whoopie Pies. I made them and they are decadent!

So, there you have it, just a small sampling of lovely things that can be found in blog land.

• Starting Monday, Suzy from Suzy Sewing, will be hosting a week of giveaways in celebration of her birthday. 
• Sophia, from Sophia Sews, has some pictures of amazing dresses from an exhibit she recently visited. 
• Heather, from Sewing on Pins, finished her Master's  degree. Congratulations!
• Last but not least, if you're at all interesting in vintage advertising then checking out this site  is a must. I could spend hours there looking at the archives.

Sewing Blogs: Spread the Love 1

Hello and welcome to the first installment of Sewing Blogs: Spread the Love! You can think of this as the sewing communities version of Woodstock. Just like the hippies, we can share our love, albeit a different kind of love. Here, I'll share fun things that I recently found in the blogosphere, as well as link to new blogs. Even if this is the Woodstock of sewing, you must leave all of your green stuff at home lovely readers. Don't say I didn't warn you!

• Liza Jane Sews made a super cute version of the Lisette Passport dress.
• Stacie Things She Can made an adorable tunic in navy. ( A color I can't seem to get enough of.)
• Lisette from What Would Nancy Drew Wear is planning a 7 tops in 7 days challenge for herself.

• Jali from The Equator Collection made a truly gorgeous smocked pillow.
